Pedro Acosta Earns His First MotoGP Victory at KTM’s Austrian Home Race

Pedro Acosta secured the first MotoGP victory of his premier-class career at the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday, delivering a landmark home result for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing at the Red Bull Ring. Acosta finished ahead of Aprilia riders Jorge Martín and Marco Bezzecchi after rebounding from a crash while leading Saturday’s Sprint.

What happened

Acosta moved into contention during the opening phase and ultimately took control of the race, holding off championship leader Jorge Martín to the flag. Official MotoGP classification placed Acosta first, Martín second at 1.017 seconds, and Bezzecchi third at 1.209 seconds. Marc Márquez finished fifth.

The victory came one day after Acosta lost a potential Sprint win in a crash, making Sunday’s response one of the most significant results of his MotoGP career to date.

Why it matters

This was Acosta’s first Sunday MotoGP victory after 15 previous premier-class podiums without a win. It was also a major result for KTM at its home Grand Prix and the manufacturer’s first MotoGP victory of the 2026 season.

For the championship, Martín’s second-place finish extended his points advantage over Marc Márquez. The Austrian weekend therefore produced both a breakthrough individual result for Acosta and another important shift in the title fight.

For Canadian riders and KTM customers, the result is primarily a motorsport milestone rather than a direct product claim. The RC16 is a purpose-built MotoGP prototype, so race performance should not be presented as evidence that a Canadian-market street motorcycle has identical specifications or capability.

MotoGP’s next round is the Japanese Grand Prix at Mobility Resort Motegi, scheduled for October 2–4, with the premier-class race on October 4. Austria is now a settled result: Acosta won, Martín finished second and Bezzecchi completed the podium.
