Máximo Quiles won the Austrian Moto3 Grand Prix on Sunday, collecting his ninth victory of the 2026 season and creating a mathematical opportunity to secure the championship at the next round in Japan.
What happened
David Almansa was leading when he crashed on lap eight, leaving Quiles in control of the race. Quiles went on to win ahead of Brian Uriarte, with Álvaro Carpe completing the podium.
The result moved Carpe into second place in the championship, 131 points behind Quiles. With seven rounds remaining after Austria, the title is not yet decided, but Quiles can clinch it at Motegi if he leaves Japan with an advantage of at least 150 points.
Why it matters
Nine victories in 15 rounds underline the consistency of Quiles’ season. Austria also demonstrated the value of converting an opponent’s mistake into maximum championship points without adding unnecessary risk.
