Assen Confirmed to Host the 2027 Motocross of Nations

The Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations will return to Assen in the Netherlands in 2027, with Infront Moto Racing confirming the TT Circuit Assen as host for October 8-10.

The announcement was made October 4 during the current Motocross of Nations weekend at Ernée, France.

Assen last hosted the event in 2019, when the Netherlands won the Motocross of Nations for the first time with Jeffrey Herlings, Glenn Coldenhoff and Calvin Vlaanderen.

The 2027 edition therefore brings the event back to a venue tied directly to one of the biggest moments in Dutch motocross history.

Three days are already confirmed

The organizer lists October 8, 9 and 10, 2027 for the event.

That gives national federations, race teams and travelling fans a firm weekend more than a year in advance.

The Motocross of Nations sits outside the normal individual world-championship structure.

Riders compete for their countries in three classes, and national scoring determines the winner of the Chamberlain Trophy.

That format creates a different atmosphere from a standard Grand Prix because each individual result affects a national team.

Assen will again have to accommodate that unusually large international audience and the infrastructure demands that come with it.

A return to the 2019 venue

The 2019 Motocross of Nations at Assen was historic for the Netherlands.

Herlings, Coldenhoff and Vlaanderen delivered the country’s first overall victory in the event.

The track used a motocross layout built inside and around the TT Circuit complex, bringing an off-road race into one of Europe’s best-known permanent motorsport venues.

For 2027, organizer Lee van Dam says work is underway with Infront on a new track layout.

That means the return should not be treated as a simple recreation of the 2019 course.

The venue is the same, but the organizer is already signalling changes to how the motocross circuit will be presented.

Assen brings major-event infrastructure

The TT Circuit is best known internationally for road racing.

That infrastructure is part of the appeal.

Large spectator areas, established transport routes, hospitality facilities and experience handling major international crowds can all support an event as demanding as the Motocross of Nations.

Infront Moto Racing President and CEO David Luongo described Assen as a strong fit because of its international motorsport reputation and the size of the Nations.

He also said he expects the motocross layout to have a distinctly Dutch character, with deep sand and a physical, technical surface.

That matters because the Nations is not simply moved onto the normal paved TT circuit.

The challenge will be building an off-road course worthy of the event inside a facility better known for asphalt racing.

Dutch motocross has a strong home narrative

The Netherlands will arrive at its home event with significant expectations.

Dutch riders have remained major players in international motocross, and the 2019 victory gives the event an obvious historical reference point.

The current 2026 Motocross of Nations reinforced that strength.

The Netherlands finished third at Ernée behind Belgium and Spain, with Herlings winning both of his Sunday motos.

That does not determine what the 2027 Dutch roster will look like.

Selections depend on rider form, health and federation decisions closer to the event.

But the depth of Dutch motocross makes a home Motocross of Nations commercially and competitively significant.

Tickets were scheduled to open October 4

The official announcement said the ticketing link would be shared through MXGP channels as sales opened at 17:00 CEST on October 4.

Travellers should use the official MXGP ticket link once available rather than relying on third-party resale listings.

More than a year separates the announcement from the event, so travel, accommodation and ticket conditions may evolve.

The confirmed facts at this stage are the host venue and the October 8-10, 2027 dates.

Specific rider lineups, support classes, detailed schedules and course information will come later.

What the announcement means for Canadian fans

There is no direct Canadian-hosting angle to the announcement, but it matters to Canadian motocross followers and the national-team program.

Canada has continued to send teams to the Motocross of Nations, including the 2026 squad of Tanner Ward, Dylan Rempel and Dylan Wright.

A confirmed 2027 venue gives the Canadian program an early planning target.

That does not mean a roster should be projected now.

Domestic results, rider availability, funding and federation decisions will determine who represents Canada next year.

For fans considering travel, Assen is also a more predictable destination than a temporary or remote race site because the TT Circuit is an established international venue.

The announcement is the milestone

This is a genuine October 4 development.

The event was not merely rumoured or carried forward from an old calendar.

Infront Moto Racing formally confirmed Assen as the 2027 Motocross of Nations host during the 2026 event at Ernée.

The date is October 8-10, 2027.

The venue is TT Circuit Assen.

The organizer is developing a new motocross layout, and the event returns to the site of the Netherlands’ first Nations victory in 2019.

Those are the facts that matter now.

Additional details will become meaningful when the completed track plan, ticket information, team selections and official 2027 event schedule are released.

For now, the Motocross of Nations knows where it is going next: back to Assen.
