Toprak Razgatlioglu Will Miss the Rest of the 2026 MotoGP Season
Prima Pramac Yamaha rider Toprak Razgatlioglu will miss the remainder of the 2026 MotoGP season after further medical assessment determined that his injured right shoulder requires surgery.

Razgatlioglu dislocated the shoulder in a highside during practice at the Indonesian Grand Prix. He was able to compete later that weekend, but subsequent examinations showed the injury was more serious than first believed.
MotoGP says the three-time WorldSBK champion travelled to Milan on October 19 for additional assessment. Surgery is scheduled for October 26.
The decision ends Razgatlioglu’s rookie MotoGP season early and removes him from the remaining rounds, beginning with the Australian Grand Prix. Yamaha test rider Augusto Fernandez will substitute for Prima Pramac Yamaha.

Razgatlioglu’s move to MotoGP was one of the most closely watched rider changes of 2026 because of his success in WorldSBK and the distinctive riding style that made him one of production-based racing’s biggest stars.
A rookie MotoGP season is normally as much about learning as results. Riders adapt to different tires, aerodynamics, braking behaviour, electronics and race procedures while the team collects data that can guide setup and development.
Missing the closing races therefore costs more than championship points. It removes several weekends of competitive mileage and feedback that would otherwise feed into winter preparation.
For Pramac and Yamaha, Fernandez provides an experienced replacement who is already familiar with the manufacturer’s testing program. His role is not to recreate Razgatlioglu’s season but to keep the second bike active and supply useful race-weekend data.
The injury also underlines a basic distinction that applies well beyond professional racing: finishing a session after a crash does not prove that an injured joint is ready for continued use.
Shoulder injuries can vary widely in severity, and recovery decisions depend on imaging, examination and specialist medical advice. The team has confirmed surgery but has not published a guaranteed return date.
That makes speculation about Razgatlioglu’s exact rehabilitation timeline premature. His future preparation will depend on the procedure, recovery progress and medical clearance.
For Canadian racing fans, the season loses one of its most recognizable crossover stories. Razgatlioglu brought a large WorldSBK following into MotoGP and gave Yamaha another high-profile development narrative during a technically important period for the championship.
For riders and dealers, the useful lesson is not a diagnosis or treatment recommendation. It is the importance of taking post-crash symptoms seriously, inspecting protective equipment and motorcycles after an incident, and relying on qualified medical assessment for return-to-ride decisions.
Razgatlioglu’s 2026 MotoGP campaign now ends with surgery taking priority over the remaining races. Fernandez will take over the seat while the Turkish rider begins the recovery process.
